SOUTH FRONTENAC TOWNSHIP BY-LAW 2010-19
A BY-LAW TO AUTHORIZE THE VOTING BY TELEPHONE/INTERNET FOR THE 2010 MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
WHEREAS Subsection 42(1) (a) of the Municipal Elections Act R.S.O. 1996, states that
the Council of a local municipality may pass by-laws to authorize the use of voting and
vote counting equipment such as voting machines, vote recorders or optical scanning vote
tabulators; and 3
WHEREAS Subsection 42(l)(b) of the Municipal Elections Act., R.S.O. 1996, states that the Council of a local municipality may psss by-laws to authorize electors to use an alternative voting method, such as voting by mail, or by telephone/Internet, that does not require electors to attend at a voting place in order to vote; and
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Township of South Frontenac wishes to
adopt the process of voting by telephone/Internet to ensure greater accessibility of all
voters to exercise their individual and democratic right to vote;
NOW THEREFORE THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF SOU FRONTENAC, BY ITS COUNCIL, HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
- That the Municipal Election process for the October 2010 elections utilize the
alternative voting method known as “Voting by Telephone/Internet”. 2. That the voting period, being the advance vote and including voting day, shall be for a term ofS(eight) full days, commencing on Monday, October 18th, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. (Eastern Standard Time) and that the voting period be terminated th on Monday, October 25U\ 2010 at 8:00 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). 3. That the Township enter into a contract agreement with Intelivote, for the purpose of providing Telephone/Internet Voting services for the October 2010 elections.
- That the Mayor and the Clerk be hereby authorized to execute all and any documents to give effect to these presents. th
